Gold rush at climbing meet
Jamshedpur: Climbers from Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) bagged 28 medals – 10 gold, nine silver and nine bronze – on the concluding day of the 23rd East Zone Sport Climbing Competition at JRD complex on Sunday.
Talim Ansari, the lone international climber from Jharkhand, claimed two gold medals both in junior boys’ bouldering and lead categories.
Another state climber Aman Verma proved his prowess in the bouldering category for sub-junior boys, winning gold by defeating Bengal’s Raju Nayak (silver) and statemate Sarfaraz Alam (bronze).
Aman’s sister Anisha also won gold by defeating her team mates Vidula Prakash Abhale (silver) and Simran Kumari in the sub-junior girls’ bouldering section.
Jharkhand had a complete sway over the lead category for junior girls with Puja Birua (gold), Neha Mahto (silver) and Neetu Mahto) walking home with top three positions.
Similarly, in the sub-junior category, Simran Kumari, Armitra Dey and Vidula Prakash Abhele of Jharkhand claimed the top three positions.
The hosts also picked one more gold in the bouldering category for women, thanks to Sangeeta Samad.
“I was confident of claiming the top slot. I had prepared well for the competition,” said Talim.
Aman said it felt nice to win gold for the state. “I am indebted to TSAF for honing my skills. I have learnt a lot at the cradle,” he added.
