Travel guide to Ranthambore National Park
Ranthambore is one of the largest national parks in India. It was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 by the government of India. In 1973 it was declared as one of the “Project Tiger” reserves. Ranthambhore was elevated to the status of a national park in 1980.

It is located in the southeastern district of Sawai Madhopur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is particularly popular for Bengal tigers, leopards and marsh crocodiles.

How to reach Ranthambore National Park?The Ranthambore National Park is well connected to all the major cities of India. To get there you have the following options:

  • By air: The nearest airport from Ranthambore National Park is Sanganer Airport in Jaipur, which is well connected with allmajor cities of India. The distance between Jaipur and Ranthambore is around 180 km. Regular flights operate toJaipur from all major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, etc. Tourists can a take direct taxi or bus from the Sanganer Airport to reach Ranthambore in fully comfort and safety.
  • By train: The easiest way to get there is to take a train to Sawai Madhopur. It is the nearest station that connects the park with other major cities like Jaipur, Mumbai and New Delhi. It is 10 km from the park. Tourists can avail local bus or a taxi services to get to Ranthambore without problems.
  • By road: Ranthambore is well connected to all major cities and towns through the state bus service. You can also get there through private buses and taxis. You can easily travel to Ranthambore from Jaipur, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Jodhpur via road.

What to do while at Ranthambore?

Things to do in Ranthambore are plenty. You can enjoy great many wildlife attractions on a jeep safari. It is very important to book safaris in advance. Safari trips ply in either jeeps or minibuses. However, jeeps are preferred by all. Safari trips are available in the morning and in the evenings. If you are planning to spend the night at Ranthambore, there are some lodgings like cabins near the park.

What is the best time to visit Ranthambore National Park?

The best time to visit Ranthambore is from October to June. Rest of the year, the park is closed for tourists.

What are other places to visit in and around Ranthambore?

In addition to the tigers in the park, you can also visit the spectacular Ranthambore Fort, on a hilltop, which offers a magnificent view of the surrounding wild landscape. The fort was founded in the 10th century.

What is the appropriate gear and clothing for visiting Ranthambore?

To visit Ranthambore we recommend you wear light clothing of cotton as the temperatures are high in the summers between April and June. Always keep arms and legs covered with mosquito repellent and sunscreen. Do not forget to carry a hat, gloves, and dark glasses.

What is the entry fee to Rathambore NationalPark?

There is a limited entry into Ranthambore National Park. To access you have to pay an entry permit (in addition to the services of guides and special transportation if you want to do a photo safari). Normally each ride costs around Rs. 700-800 per person. There is also a separate fee if you want to carry along electronic equipment such as video cameras, tripods, or reflex or professional cameras.
